1. So when one has finished all the Carrington and Cogman available and goes to look for more steampunk-- as it might be the Whitechapel Gods that one bounced off of back autumn-- one at once and naturally wishes for more Carrington and Cogman, because WG not only presents a cast of thousands with no telling who is who, it gives you sentences like "He stood up, his legs taught" and "Since Grandfather Clock and his pet baron almost certainly know by now, your compatriots aught to." Are there no editors anymore? are there no *literate* editors anymore?

2. When petronia was here, she wandered down to the Korean super and wandered back with shingo pears. I'm not a fruit eater, and am supposed to stay away from pears and apples anyway, but shingo pears are sweet and mild and the best of both apple and pear: crunchy and juicy. Goes perfectly with Jarlsberg cheese. (And no, I never had nashi in Japan. Way too expensive.)

3. When *I* was at the Korean super I bought lotus root. Buying lotus root here is a crapshoot- mine turned out to be lightly black inside the holes, suggesting one not eat it. There's also the fact that lotus is naturally tannic and one isn't supposed to eat it raw, which kerblonxes my nibbling instinct when cooking.

4. Work is underenrolled so I can decide not to show up for my late-day shifts without reproach. Not working rather grows on me. Granted, just as in '09 when I did the time-off schtick, I'm in rather too much pain to enjoy the experience completely. But-- maybe the difference between time off in late summer and time off in mid-winter-- I find myself at much less of a loose end now. If nothing else, in between reading and tea-drinking, I can do my exercises and hope for relief.

Speaking of books, you may already know about this, but Zen Cho has a book coming out in autumn - _Sorcerer to the Crown_. I loved her _Spirits Abroad_ (which you sent me), and I'm very much looking forward to this one.

Soulless to start with, followed by Changeless, Blameless, Heartless and Timeless. Gail Carrington FWIW.
