Three years ago I found a cut glass salad bowl on the boulevard. Was using it to hold the chopped chard for my colcannon yesterday. Reached up to get the oil from the shelves, knocked the balsamic vinegar loose, it fell and smashed the bowl. 'And what makes it ten times worse' was that I had to toss half my carefully minced chard. Used the untouched half, daringly, and of course this turns into the best colcannon to date. Common or garden russet potatoes turn out to be much mealier than organic; who'da thunk?
Put a box of books on the boulevard yesterday, including several perennial refuseniks. (Why does no one want American Gods, I wonder?) Someone took the lot, and the box as well. This annoys me. When two or three books are gone, someone may have wanted to sell them but equally they may have wanted to read them. When all are gone the odds are good on it being a reseller. Ah well. Can see Bob Miller telling Whoever 'nah, these came from my store, I don't need them back.'
